# Nature's Inspiration With Shawn Henderson
*We caught up with this NYC-based interior designer recently on PJ's Instagram Live.*
Planet positive tips for decorating and designing with integrity
[Shawn Henderson](https://www.shawnhenderson.com), an NYC-based interior designer and published author, believes in respecting the environment in every sense of the word. For him, this means using craftsmen whose work is true to their art forms, working with natural materials, using vintage furnishings, and choosing products that are honestly produced and made.
He says, "My creative process begins by listening to my clients, then contemplating how design can make their lives more beautiful. The beauty is in the details: lightness, flexibility and cleanliness. I see newfound beauty in old materials and furnishings, and often reclaim them in fresh new ways. The furniture that I design reflects familiar forms, but the lines are pared down and more pure. Often I am drawn to serene palettes punctuated with rich splashes of color. No one element stands out – the layers and unexpected mix achieves a harmonious balance."
PJ President Phillip Bershad caught up with Shawn recently on [Instagram Live.](https://www.instagram.com/tv/Caksnqnp27q/?utm_medium=copy_link)

PHILIP: Where do you find inspiration?SHAWN: I find inspiration when I’m surrounded by nature. That’s when inspiration strikes.
PHILIP: What do you think of when you think of Phillip Jeffries?
SHAWN: I immediately think of [grasscloths](https://www.phillipjeffries.com/shop/categories/GRASS)because they are super popular and have been around for a while, but they are such classics. The great thing about them is you can put nails in the wall without a mark showing when you remove it. They’re a great backdrop for art.
**PHILIP: What do you love about cork wallcoverings?**
SHAWN: It feels architectural to me when you put it on the walls— it feels like cork or wood. When you can add these beautiful wallcoverings without having to decorate, it feels very architectural to me. It feels decorative without being heavy handed.
