Creating Personal Design
At Alder and Tweed, mountain homes are no longer defined by traditional style choices like wood beams and animal hides, but reimagined with intention. Each project reflects its setting while embracing a more refined, modern point of view. For clients seeking retreat from urban life, these homes offer a sense of ease and individuality. Spaces are layered and personal, designed to feel collected over time and connected to their surroundings.

Signature Ceilings
Wallcovering plays a defining role in any space, but it can make an even bigger impact on the ceiling. To bring a glamorous old Hollywood feel to this Big Sky, Montana, home above, Heather designed a personal speakeasy that was unique to the clients. Metallic All Over wallcovering in Smooth Sterling completely transformed the space. “This is a room that none of their friends and neighbors are going to have. It felt like a vision,” said Heather.
For another bedroom below, the ceiling was covered with Phillip Jeffries’ Kasbah Cloth in Blossom Blue for an encompassing, moody look. The blueness of the ceiling helped anchor the walls that are adorned with custom asymmetrical wood paneling painted blue and an asymmetrical gallery wall. “The blue wallcovering anchored the mood of the room and allowed us to be bold in color choice for the walls without feeling like it’s totally out there, but still feeling out there,” said Heather. “You don’t ever fully get there with a white ceiling.”

Print and Pattern
For softer moments, textile wallcoverings such as Arboretum creates a quiet sense of comfort. Subtle and timeless, they layer effortlessly with pattern and material, allowing each element to complement the next with ease.

Creating Coziness
To bring in that feeling of relaxation and softness without losing refinement. “Textile wallcoverings are perfect for that because they don’t overpower and they feel timeless,” said Heather. “There’s sophistication in the interplay of textures, pattern, and print when it’s curated so one thing isn’t driving anything.”
