Pulp Design Studios' founders Beth Dotolo and Carolina V. Gentry aren’t afraid of making a big statement.

Welcome to PJ's Designer Series where we spotlight standout designer projects and incredible stories. Each feature delves into the creative process and inspiration behind these remarkable designs. We sat down with this design duo to see some fearless designs!

Nearly two decades ago, Beth Dotolo and Carolina V. Gentry departed from the Dallas firm where they both worked to form Pulp Design Studios, intending to focus on product design. Today, they’ve expanded across the U.S. and have earned the seal of approval from AD, LUXE, Vanity Fair, and more with their award-winning residential designs and line of home decor. We're thrilled to share that they are publishing a book, Fearless Design, debuting next year in the Fall of 2026.

Step inside some of their favorite projects.

For a penthouse in Seattle, Beth wanted to go bold without taking attention away from the sweeping views of Puget Sound. Coffered Wood, a wood veneer wallcovering that plays with the eye, was the perfect addition to the ceiling, drawing focus upward and out into the moody water and skyline views.

Pulp and Phillip Jeffries: A Perfect Match
“Totally our vibe and aesthetic,” is how Beth describes their relationship with PJ. "Whether it’s a traditional style covered in grasscloth or something more moody and sexy, it’s classic, and 50 years from now people will know [a wallcovering] is Phillip Jeffries because it’s unique and has a viewpoint.”

Below, the modern wallcovering, Collage, adds an artful layer to this entryway.

Going Big and Getting Bigger
“We are bold and fearless. Our clients want vibes and there’s only so much you can do with paint. People want pattern and drama.” Beth and Carolina often do “micro-renovations,” small transformations of a space that often include adding wallpaper. Their favorite PJ designs? “Rivets is hard to pass up! We have to talk ourselves out of it!” and they also love the Mashup with its customizability and ability to use different textures.

Below, a modern wood veneer mosaic, Sculpted Wood, lends texture and dimension to this modern bedroom.

Plan B(eautiful)
A mountain lodge escape with a bar area was due for a tiled wall to accompany the dark cabinetry, but the builder had to scrap the design. Enter Aflutter in vinyl, a splashproof Phillip Jeffries print that Beth used to adorn the back of the bar, then added brass decor details. The look gave a perfect nod to nature without screaming ‘mountain house’ and made the area even more dramatic than originally planned. “The clients were obsessed. We put their personality into it!”

Embrace the Design Conflict
Carolina and Beth agree that the “coolest projects are when there’s client conflict.” Negotiating client couples with differing ideas can lead to “something brand new you can’t put your finger on, a hybrid.” This primary bedroom was the perfect marriage of their rustic and refined tastes. For the mural behind the bed, Beyond, a watercolor inspired landscape mural printed on our Manila Hemp, served both as a reference to the home’s mountain setting while setting a serene and painterly scene.

Pulp Design Studios now has several satellite design offices, and relies and trusts PJ all the way. With new projects happening in Hawaii, Beth and Carolina depend heavily on Phillip Jeffries’ expertise on everything from materials to shipping for any distance or climate. We're happy to help bring their visions to life.
