A newly remodeled Mother/Baby Unit with top-notch technology and decor.
Phillip Jeffries Flight, a large-scale mural with majestic cranes soaring from the clouds, covers the ceiling of this hospital wing.
With a commitment to high-quality design and community, Wallcott Adams Verneuille Architecture (wavarchitects.com) in Mobile, Alabama, designed a breathtaking New Mother/Baby Unit at USA Health’s Children’s & Women’s Hospital. To make the entire space feel expansive and welcoming, Phillip Jeffries sky-inspired mural Flight was used to line the ceiling in the foyer and hallways. The common spaces of the floor features gentle lighting, calming beach-inspired art, and soothing colors in deep grays, golds, and blues. It’s a serene environment for families to enjoy. Let's tour the space!
USA University Health Women & Children's Hospital
USA Health created a brand new Mother/Baby Unit designed to enhance comfort and promote bonding for families and their newborns. The postpartum unit is located on the fifth floor of the women’s tower at Children’s & Women’s Hospital. For the region's leading provider of birthing services, the architecture firm designed 20 suites that focused on couplet care, a family-centered approach to post-partum care.

The Science Behind The Design
The newly designed unit aims to facilitate couplet care, an approach that focuses on family-centered care where the mother and baby are attended to by the same nurse in the same room from birth until they are ready to go home. Each of the 20 suites offers a spacious bedroom, a comfortable recliner and couch, and a private bath equipped with luxurious amenities including bidets. Every suite includes a baby bath and scale, as well as a height-adjustable bassinet to facilitate bedside assessments and procedures. A dedicated lactation space and two private rooms for breast pumping will also be available for patients, visitors, and staff to utilize.
Creating Atmosphere With Wallcovering
The stunning focal point of the design is Flight, a large-scale mural with majestic cranes soaring from clouds, which covers the ceiling and makes the entire space feel expansive. The deep blue chosen, 7055 Blue Heron on Marshmallow Manila Hemp, captures the essence of a clear blue sky.

Flight is offered in a wide range of colors with and without the birds. It is available in 1-2 weeks and can be printed on natural, textured, and vinyl grounds. Plus, it's easily customizable with our PJ Mash Up® program so you can create your own “suite” dreams.
