The best designs start with wallcovering
Working with incredible interior designers and principals is not only a source of inspiration for us at Phillip Jeffries, but also a source of great joy. And this Fall, we were lucky enough to get to catch up with one of our favorites, Katie Rosenfeld during Boston Design Center’s Fall Market (scroll to the bottom for a behind the scenes tour of the stunning new Boston Showroom!).
Katie Rosenfeld and Company is a Massachusettes-based full-service interior design company known for their uniquely fresh, eclectic, and colorful approach. With an eye for quirky fun, Katie designs with sophistication and loads of character. Q. Let’s talk about designing a new build. Can you share your process and a little bit about the way you choose elements of a design plan?
KATIE: In a new build it’s imperative to have plans with accurate measurements. First, we have a team kickoff with the client, builder, and architect to make sure we are all communicating and also to ensure all the design elements are in sync. This is when we all schedule what we need and when. Then, based on the construction schedule, we will plan buying trips for plumbing, appliances and tile first. Then we’ll move onto the lighting plan and simultaneously drop furniture into a plan. And finally work on the design for the kitchen and baths.
Q. Are wallcoverings chosen at the beginning or end of the design process?
KATIE: In a project such as a new build, I would say the middle- after hard finishes and furniture.
That being said, I am a wallpaper fanatic! I love how it tightens the rooms and creates texture, or pattern (if needed). It creates such a cozy backdrop for furnishings. It really dresses the room, in my opinion, more than paint.
Q. Are there any design challenges with new build homes?KATIE: Both- everything always runs smoothly and service is always A++
