Designer Series: Inside The World of Caitlin Kah Interiors

Welcome to PJ's new Designer Series where we spotlight standout designer projects and incredible stories. Each feature delves into the creative process and inspiration behind these remarkable designs.

PJ Heads To Palm Beach
As we kick off summer, there's no better time to explore the vibrant design community of Palm Beach. Mixing timeless charm with a splash of modern flair, Caitlin Kah Interiors has quickly become a design powerhouse along Florida’s Gold Coast. In just the handful of years since opening her eponymous boutique design firm (following a decade at Kemble Interiors), Caitlin Kah has become a fixture on the Palm Beach design scene as well as the Elle Decor A-List, AD100, and Luxe Interiors + Design Next in Design list.

Known for layering colors and patterns with natural textures, Caitlin's boutique firm transforms spaces into chic havens. We're thrilled to chat with Caitlin about design, her favorite projects, and her love of PJ wallcovering.

Pretty Patterns and Natural Textures

For a cottage near the seaside, Caitlin chose a sumptuous grasscloth,
Silk and Abaca in Silk Twill, to wrap the room filled with delicately patterned furniture. The handwoven and natural elements of the fibers in the wallcovering create beautiful imperfections that are part of its inherent beauty. “I love the texture of the knots and threads," Caitlin said. "And how it doesn’t always line up exactly perfectly. That’s how you can tell it’s real and handmade.”

A Look Inside Caitlin's Designer Tool Box
As we explore the creative ideas that fuel these projects, we also uncover personal favorites and essential tools that designers rely on.
Caitlin carries her favorite Phillip Jeffries naturals in her proverbial design toolbox the way some designers have go-to paint swatches. She even has their stock numbers memorized, throwing out one of her go-to's, “3490-B!, an Island Raffia that makes walls seem to glow."

A Waterfront Renovation
Caitlin  tackled the challenge of massive ceilings and large open areas in the home shown below by installing an array of Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings in jute, hemp and sisal throughout the space. First up, the entryway! Caitlin enveloped the foyer and its star – oversized double front doors in a soothing blue – with the textured Seaside Jute in the Clam Shell colorway.
“It would’ve been hard to do different prints, but I could use the different weaves and textures of the jute to really carry a thread of color throughout the space.”

The home has naturals in the kids’ room as well. “They’re so durable and hold up, even with young kids.” For a girl’s bedroom, Caitlin went with one of her favorite Phillip Jeffries picks, one that also adorns her own young daughter’s room, Manila Hemp in Tea Rose.

Pink: The Hottest Hue Of the Season
Pink is increasingly being embraced in coastal styles, adding a fresh and vibrant twist to traditional blue and white decors. Designers are incorporating pink in various ways, from subtle accents to bold statements, creating beautiful coastal rooms that stand out especially in bedrooms.
“It’s a really special place for me in my home, and it’s important to make it cozy,” Caitlin says of her favorite room to design, the primary bedroom.

Tour A Palm Beach Gem: The Julia Amory Flagship Store
Those who may know the popular lifestyle brand Julia Amory will be delighted to hear about its latest retail space. Its first store happens to be in Palm Beach and Caitlin Kah Interiors was tasked with created a stylish, immersive experience. This chic boutique offers a meticulously curated selection of women's dresses, clothing, tablecloths, and accessories, all crafted to inspire everyday elegance. Pink Bermuda Hemp also stars in Caitlin’s design of this cabana-inspired shop below, where the texture of the hemp grounds the pink and white striped cloth ceiling to give it a cozy jewel box vibe.

The Timeless Beauty of Naturals
For modern coastal looks, handcrafted natural wallcoverings brings both texture and movement to your walls. They can transforms plain walls into focal points, adding warmth and authenticity to any space. For Caitlin Kay, texture is king. “I love the woven overlay because you get the saturation in the back and the natural fibers running through, so you get movement and texture in the walls."

As Caitlin Kah Interiors continues to make waves in the design world, we can't wait to see what's next! From coastal traditional looks to modern and bold designs, we know her vision will continue to inspire and elevate the world of interior design.
