The Lounge In House Beautiful's Whole Home

How to expertly layer four wallcoverings in one space.

The Lounge In House Beautiful's Whole Home

Designer Rajni Alex wrapped this mountain home's media room in four stunning Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings.

For their annual Whole Home project, House Beautiful headed to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to reimagine a 4,000-square-foot mountain contemporary vacation home. Located at the top of a windy hill surrounded by trees, the home was designed to inspire relaxation and down time. A place to maximize quality time, but make it stylish!

Rajni Alex, founder and principal of Rajni Alex Design, an award-winning design firm based in New York and Florida, was tasked with designing a multi-purpose media room with a swanky vibe. The space was expansive enough for movie nights or a larger party, and had to be family-friendly. She chose four stunning Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings to wrap the space in style! “All of these wallcoverings have their own identity and personality, ” Rajni told House Beautiful. "But they meld together beautifully."

Let's take a tour!

The Lounge
For a relaxed-yet-sophisticated lounge ambiance, Rajni chose Phillip Jeffries Metallic Ombré wallcovering to wrap a curved seating bank flanked with soft-glow lighting. The authentic metallic leaf reflects the room’s luxurious illumination, but Rajni chose our Horsehair ground, a multi tonal textured wallcovering, to add natural warmth to a space while paneling beautifully. To craft this natural wallcovering, authentic abaca and poly materials are woven together to create the look and feel of real horsehair. Leaving no surface left uncovered, Rajni covered the ceiling in the aptly named collection, Suede Lounge, a soft and cozy faux suede wallcovering, that looks and feels like the real deal.

The Den
The perimeter walls also got a textural treatment with the artisanal collection, Hatchwork. A modern interpretation of a hatchwork pattern, artisans use a multi-step process of painting and layering plaster with textured and smooth overlapping strokes to create this edgy motif.
