The Hang: Tips For Installing Large-Scale Wood Mosaics

Large patterned wood veneers like Yacht Club, Palazzo and Fretwork have more pieces and can be more difficult to hang. 

PJ's Simple Guide To Install Wood Veneer Wallcovering

• Moisten the material so it relaxes. Use a sponge to soften the material and prevent the wood veneer from cracking.
• Paste the material with a clay adhesive (TIP: Clay is King! Clay doesn't add additional moisture.)
  Use a dry adhesive - a clear adhesive may be used when veneer is a light color
• Book it. Let it relax 5-8 minutes before hanging and do not crease.
  
  

Trouble-Shooting Tips
Now you're ready to install! If issues arise, just remember to use a brush or any smoothing tool without a point. You don't want any edges to catch on the mosaic. If you have an air bubble (or popping) that won't smooth out, Dennis recommends moistening again, blotting, and then going over the spot with a seam roller. If you're still having trouble, try a heat gun. And as a last effort, if you still have a bubble, Dennis recommends doing a relief cut and then using your seam roller to roll out the air. Additional adhesive on an artist's brush may be needed.
