Kelli Fontana Vogelgesang of West Bay Homes designed this primary bedroom for her mom.
Sometimes it’s more than simply wallcovering. Sometimes it's more about the people who use a space.
When Kelli Fontana Vogelgesang of West Bay Homes took on this personal project, she envisioned her mom starting a new chapter. And that's exactly the vibe that Phillip Jeffries Flight in Sunrise captures in this primary bedroom makeover. Kelli shares with us her personal journey as she reimagined her mother’s new home.
Love At First Sight
When her mother first visited this magnificent new construction property, she took in the views high above the mangroves and the tallest palm trees on the west coast of Florida and fell in love with the space. Kelli instantly knew she needed to create a wallpaper story with a dynamic Phillip Jeffries mural on the master headboard wall.
“My mom was recently widowed, and she was adjusting to her new life in a new home," she explains. "I wanted her to wake up and fall asleep surrounded by color and beauty. An avid bird watcher and lover of color, I knew she would swoon when I came across this Philip Jeffries wallcovering. It evokes the true spirit of surrendering to good design and allowing materials tell your story!”
Sweet Dreams
‘’We started with a white box in the sky," she says. "We added warmth to the entry and hallway ceilings by adding both a stained and bleached walnut wood treatment."
Custom built-in cabinetry was designed for the great room, study, master closet, and laundry room. Lighting fixtures both old and new were incorporated into the spaces. Fabric panels were made to enhance the separation between the foyer entry and the great room environments.
‘’I have always been most intrigued by residences that reveal themselves over time,” says Kelli. ‘’So although we were given a standard floor plan, the fabric walls help to set the scene.”
Returning to Naples, Florida, where Kelli grew up, to create a special space for her mother was an incredible delight.
"The homeowner will fall asleep and awaken in this coral cloud experience and for me, that was the driving force for this project," says Kelli. "Currently not a white box in the sky anymore!"
