Michelle Gerson Designs The Ultimate Hampton's Hangout

Modern, eclectic spaces are a signature look of Michelle Gerson Interiors so it’s no surprise this basement refresh is a modern marvel.

After leaving a successful career in fashion design, Michelle Gerson drew on her experience working with textiles to launch her own eponymous design firm. Her design aesthetic merges luxury and comfort with Art Deco and Mid-Century elements. When a client in the Hamptons needed a basement refresh, Michelle began searching for the perfect wallcovering.

THE BEFORE
A bright, white space with tall ceilings that needed some texture and pattern on the walls. 


“Part of what inspired us to create a custom wallcovering was that we were looking for a pattern with texture, but everywhere we looked, we just found pattern or texture. I wanted to integrate the two.”

Lucky for Michelle, Phillip Jeffries offers a custom program called Pure Imagination®. With a few simple steps, designers can create their own wallcoverings, too. Drawing inspiration from patterns of the 1970s, Gerson came up with collection with modern shapes in a geometric pattern. She collaborated with the PJ Design team, discussing colors and textures. "And before we knew it, a collection was created!"

THE AFTER
The basement walls get a punch of personality thanks to Phillip Jeffries Nod to Mod, A Pure Imagination® Creation by Michelle Gerson. This large-scale mural wallcovering has painterly geometric designs that add movement to the walls. The whole space now flows together from the cozy couch for movie nights to the entertaining areas for games.




After seeing her first strike off, Michelle was inspired her to expand her collection. "When we pulled the wallcovering out of the package and hung it on the wall, we were amazed," said Gerson. "We were so happy with how it came to life. And It made us think: we should do it in this other color, too!"

We agreed and decided to make it an official PJ Collection: Nod to Mod, A Pure Imagination® Creation by Michelle Gerson. This stunning new collection will be available in several colorways in March. Stay tuned for more!
