Five designers transform spaces with immersive murals, dimensional textures, and natural materials from Phillip Jeffries.
For its 2026 Whole Home, House Beautiful headed to Charleston, South Carolina, transforming two side-by-side residences in the historic Ansonborough neighborhood into distinct expressions of modern city living. One was imagined as a couple’s retreat, while the other was designed as a destination for gathering and entertaining.
Throughout the homes, an impressive roster of designers brought each space to life with color, pattern, texture, and plenty of personality. Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings make an appearance in five distinctive rooms, from a scenic writing retreat to a richly layered listening lounge. Each designer approached the wall in a different way, creating spaces that celebrate the transformative power of great design.

Mark Kennamer transformed a spare bedroom into an intimate retreat dedicated to writing, reading, and moments of quiet. House Beautiful notes that the room was designed for everything from morning coffee to winding down at the end of the day. Promenade in Sea Wall Beige sets the tone with a shimmering chinoiserie landscape of graceful trees, flowers, and birds. The scenic wallcovering envelops the room and provides an elegant backdrop for Kennamer’s layered mix of color and pattern. The result feels collected and transportive, with just the right touch of coastal charm.

For their Gallery Space, Robin Reaves and Regina Reaves of R&R Interior Design 365 created a room where art and design take center stage. Idyllic surrounds the space in soft, painterly scenery and creates an atmospheric backdrop for the collected artwork. Above, Burled Chevron in Cadet Grey draws the eye upward with rich texture and a geometric composition. Together, the two wallcoverings turn the room into an immersive experience, proving the ceiling can be just as impactful as the walls.

Nicole Salceda of Eye for Pretty approached the traditional dining room with entertaining in mind. Instead of a formal space reserved for sit-down dinners, Salceda conceived the room as a dining lounge where homeowners and guests could gather throughout the evening. Avon in Canterbury brings the outdoors in with a sweeping panorama inspired by a misty lakeside landscape. The painterly mural wraps the room in serene scenery while helping connect it visually to the surrounding open-plan spaces. The effect is relaxed yet refined, creating a memorable backdrop for drinks, conversation, and everything in between.

Katie Monkhouse of Monkhouse Studio looked to the glamour and character of the 1970s for a Listening Lounge designed around the simple pleasure of putting on a record and staying awhile. Parquetry Plaid in Caraway and Russet enhances the room’s retro sensibility with the look of richly paneled wood. The geometric wallcovering adds natural warmth and dimension while complementing the saturated plum and vermilion palette. The result feels nostalgic without being literal, with material, color, and pattern working together to create a room that feels entirely its own.

In the Primary Bathroom, Michael Mitchell continues the rich green palette of the adjoining suite with Threadwork in Olive Trace. Delicate linear details and touches of gold bring subtle shimmer to the walls, while the deep olive ground complements the room’s metallic finishes. The wallcovering gives the bath warmth and dimension, creating a polished connection between the spaces while allowing the jewel-toned palette to take center stage.
Across five rooms, each designer offers a different perspective. Scenic landscapes create immersive escapes, natural textures introduce warmth and dimension, and unexpected applications turn walls and ceilings into defining elements of the room.
